The Same Ad for Everyone Is Still a Choice

Google’s new CM360 Personalized Video feature could remove much of the operational complexity that has kept personalized video from scaling.

Every time you serve the same video to every audience, you’re making a choice: that the message matters more than who is receiving it.

Sometimes that’s the right choice. But often, everyone gets the same creative for a much simpler reason: personalization has historically been a pain to execute.

Ten markets and three audience segments can quickly become 30 different assets to create, traffic, maintain, and measure. What sounds smart in a strategy meeting can become an operational headache once it’s time to actually launch the campaign.

That calculation is starting to change.

CM360’s Personalized Video feature, currently in pilot and targeted for global rollout in H2 2026, is designed to make personalized video look much more like a standard campaign workflow.

The technology doesn’t decide what your audiences should see. That still requires human judgment. What it can do is remove much of the mechanical complexity that has made those decisions difficult to act on at scale.

What has always made this hard

Executing a personalized video strategy at scale has traditionally meant three separate problems arriving at the same time.

  1. Too many assets. If you have ten markets and three audience segments, you could be dealing with 30 different video variants before a single placement is trafficked. Every version has to be created, uploaded, organized, and maintained.
  1. Too much trafficking. More creative variations usually mean more targeting rules, placements, line items, and combinations to manage. The clean personalization strategy you started with can quickly turn into a complicated spreadsheet that someone has to maintain throughout the campaign.
  1. Not enough visibility. Even after doing all that work, understanding which message actually worked for which audience can require significant data infrastructure. For many teams, variant-level measurement has been more aspiration than standard practice.

CM360’s Personalized Video feature addresses all three directly.

How it works

CM360 Personalized Video makes it easier to manage multiple versions of a video without building a separate campaign setup for each one.

Teams create the video variations, define who should see each version, and manage everything through one feed. CM360 then serves the appropriate video based on factors like audience, location, or timing.

Just as importantly, teams can see how each version performs. Instead of only asking, “Did the campaign work?” marketers can start asking, “Which message worked best for which audience?”

That could mean showing different stories or calls to action based on geography, speaking differently to a new prospect than an existing customer or donor, or changing what someone sees based on where they are in their journey.

The goal isn’t to create more ads just because you can. It’s to make the message more relevant when there’s a good reason to do so.

And that decision still belongs to marketers. Technology can make personalization easier, but it can’t decide which audiences matter, what makes them different, or what you should say to them.

What it can do is make those ideas much easier to put into practice and measure.

The part worth paying attention to

For years, personalized video has sounded great in theory but been difficult to execute at scale. More versions meant more production, more trafficking, more maintenance, and more measurement.

CM360 Personalized Video reduces much of that complexity.

That doesn’t mean personalization is always the answer. If the same message makes sense for everyone, use it. But when different audiences should hear different messages, it’s becoming much easier to make that happen.

Personalized video isn’t automatically better video. The message still has to be good.

The difference is that operational complexity no longer has to be the reason everyone sees the same thing.

The same ad for everyone is still an option. It’s just increasingly a choice.

CM360 Personalized Video is currently in pilot, with global commercial availability targeted for H2 2026.
